We made it to the Comfort Inn in Levis, Quebec but not before M puked in Rona, Scarborough

We made it to the Comfort Inn in Levis, Quebec.

Here was our route:

This stretch took about 10 hours to drive.  We left at around 9am.  We figured that we could either try to beat the traffic through Toronto before or after morning rush hour.  We opted for after.  There was the expected stop and go traffic.  What I wasn't expecting was how ill M would be feeling.  She has in the past had car sickness but has generally gotten over it and doesn't like the zombie feeling that gravol leaves her with.  She was complaining of having a very sick stomach.  I gave her a Tim Horton's cup (just in case) and we kept going. I thought that perhaps a rest stop was in order. We pulled over at the next stop (Kennedy?) and found a Rona.  Typically Home Depots and Lowes have lovely, large and clean bathrooms so I thought that perhaps Rona would too.  The signage was horrible and we didn't find the bathroom before poor M puked all over the floor, her crocs, Cale's shoes and her pants!

The staff at Rona were wonderful.  They seated her in the kitchen ordering section and gave her a garbage can (just in case) and began clean up.  M was so embarrassed and upset.  Eventually, we found their small and not so clean bathrooms.  I washed her crocs in the sink and the kids did there business.  We still had a small problem of 9 hours of driving ahead of us and vomit on M's pants.

The largest Sobey's I had ever seen shared the plaza with the Rona.  Perhaps they had a clothing section and I could buy some snacks and a new pair of pants.  No such luck.  C and I bought snacks while Cale and M rested on a display picnic table.  I asked cashier if there was a cheap place to buy children's pants.  She was not very impressed at helping me until I explained why I needed them.  She obviously was a mom because picked right up and gave me thorough directions to a nearby Walmart.

Gravol and new purple jogging pants and we were on the road again.

I would highly recommend the Comfort Inn in Levis for anglo travelers.  The staff spoke english and were very kind.  It has a small pool where the kids could burn off there excess energy from the car.  It also shares the parking lot with a Boston Pizza.  The BP also had english menus and bilingual staff.  It was very nice (for a BP), there was beer on tap and we didn't have to drive anywhere.  There is also a Metro across the street which was very convenient.

The Laver Family is on the road!

Bikes are loaded. New roof rack and storage bag is full of sleeping bags and other assorted camping gear. The ipods are full of movies.

It's Quebec City or bust!

PS - thank you Jamie for the roof-top bike racks! They are working out great.

Hillside 2011

I went to the Hillside festival yesterday with the girls and my friend Crys. I can't say thank you enough to Crys for helping so much with the girls. She was very happy to hang and do fun kid things.

You wouldn't know from the pics that we left the kids area but we did.  We all did a belly dancing workshop, tie dyed t-shirts, watched some concerts (Hooded Fang was fabulous), did some crafts and the girls swam in their clothes. Next year I'll know to bring bathing suits.

I bought some fabulous bonnets (yes - bonnets) for the girls too. I'll post pics soon.

I'll be looking for more kid-friendly folk to join us for hillside next year.  Cale is more likely to go to Heavy TO next year.

Happy Hillside!
